Graffiti Jackpot

Ok, so there's time for one more post before heading off to Buenos Aires...

This morning, we went up to the ex-prison (worthy of a separate post at some point) as the carpenter who is making our kitchen cabinets works up there (he works purely with recycled wood so it's good for the environment and he's very good at what he does. Muy chanta though, got to watch him carefully).

Anyway, there's tons of really good stencil graffiti on the walls. Here's a selection...most of it is of a sexual or violent nature, so if you're under 18 please STOP READING NOW.

And the Godfather watching over them all...

it's banksy! http://www.banksy.co.uk

or at least, someone emanating him.
he's very famous in England but he's done stuff everywhere. I saw some in Chiapas, Mexico so it wouldn't surprise me if he's been to Valparaiso too!

Yeah, there´s a lot of stuff that looks banksy-ish but i´ve never found any evidence of him coming to chile...he´s done a bit in Buenos Aires though. The street art scene in Valparaiso is really thriving and encouraged by the council. Sometimes the artists can even get free spray paint...i think it´s great...there are so many muros de contención in Valpo that provide a perfect canvas for stencils and murals. So many, in fact, that i´ve never understood why people grafitti peoples´ painted houses...now that`s just unnecessary and disrespectful...
