Spectacular photos. I haven't been to Chile in about 2 years and am anxious to get back and to walk the beautiful streets of Valparaiso and to take the assensores up to the top of the hills. I usually travel to Chile in winter (summer here in Palm Springs California) to get away from the broiling heat in my new home town.

I love your blog and will be coming back to read more soon.

Thanks!

And you come to Chile in winter?? That's just crazy...although when you get a sunny winter's day here, the light and the views are awesome.

I was walking to Lider last night and saw the same gorgeous sky but sadly, I did not have my camera. Thank you for capturing it!

The winter sunsets here are fantastic so you'll get to see a few more over the next few months if you're still around.

We had a crazy pink sunset in Santiago that night, too. It seemed like it was threatening to rain all day, but never got around to it. The air was thick that night here, but we get that sometimes (as you probably know).

The crazy sunsets are the only upside of the smog in Santiago. It's beautiful when the mountains turn that kind of pinky orange...

I also like the way the smog separates those of us who grew up in really polluted cities as children (brooklyn in the 80s) from those who didn't. I may not like the smog, but I never get sick from it. And I'm bragging about this? Will be at the coast for the weekend. Hope the sunsets cooperate!

So, when the heck are you going to hire me? After seeing this pictures I just want to go back and screw Paris!

Eileen-yeah but the Santiago smog is, I can say with guessful certainty, worse than Brooklyn in the 80s. And it's actually been getting worse, not better, over the last 3 or 4 years.

B- If I start earning some money.

Smog or no smog, Chile is BEAUTIFUL. Of course Valparaiso doesn't suffer from smog but it's sunsets are spectacular. Besides, even if you are not facing the water, there is always something magical to see. =)

I haven't been able to get to Chile in the summer for many many years, but I must say that there is nothing like walking the streets of Santiago or Valparaiso or even Vina del Mar in the cold winter chill. Without the crowds of tourists in the beach resorts, the quiet settles on the streets and life returns to normal. Walking through Wolf Castle in the winter is something I will never forget. It's truly sublime.

Viva Chile!
