Cerro La Campana VI

I hiked up Cerro La Campana again yesterday. I hurt today.

regarding that last (amazing) picture: proof that "cerro" should not be translated to english as "hill"

It's a complete misnomer. Cerro La Campana is, at almost 2000m, higher than many Alpine ski resorts...

Did you actually get that close to the foxy thing or did you have a long zoom?!?

Matt said...

Yep, foxycito was sitting about 3 or 4 metres away, probably waiting for everyone to leave to see what kind of snacks people had dropped...I've seen him up there a couple of times before.

Quick question: do you hike up from El Granizo or do you start at La Mina? Just curious. Also, it might be a zorro culpeo, which since it's essentially begging, is not too far off! It should feel guilty! As should the hikers that feed it, I suppose.

Nice to see the pictures etc!

Start from Granizo. Starting at La Mina is cheating. It takes between 2 and a quarter and 4 and a half hours to get up from Granizo depending on who you're hiking with.

And yes, wildlife should be left to be wild.

hey- how do you get from valpo to cerro la campana? Is there a bus- a car isnt an option...

Take the metro to Limache and then a bus to Olmue (one that takes you to La Campana- ask the driver and hope he's not one of those wankers who deliberately sends you in the wrong direction, there are lot of them about). There's a bus that (apparently) leaves you at the bottom of the access road to the park HQ, so you'll be walking about 15 minutes before you even start the hike :) I know people who have done it this way, it just involves a really early start. You have to be at park HQ before 10am to get up and down in time.
